Bumbu Bali is a pretty famous restaurant serving Balinese
cuisine situated in the middle of Bandar Puteri Puchong, also a food haven.
Ground floor was already fully-packed and we’re shown to the
level upstairs. Even the stair case was nicely decorated with candles. Very
romantic!
When reached first floor, we were surprised to see that it
was also almost full. Such good business.
The whole restaurant was decorated with Balinese furniture,
paintings, handicraft and umbrellas.
As much as I loved the decoration and ambience of the
restaurant, my only gripe was the heat. I found the restaurant to be too warm,
even at night. There was little or no air-conditioning, only fans, and the air
that night was really warm. Fortunately, we managed to find a table by the
balcony, so that we could get the occasional night breeze.
The famous Nasi Campur there, coming in 2 variants – chicken or
beef. Since I was already going to order chicken, he chose the Beef rendang
instead. It came out to be a pretty huge portion, with kangkung, grilled squid,
fish fillet, prawns, satay lilit as well as the beef rendang.
I found the beef rendang to be very fragrant with coconut milk and
the meat to be tender and juicy. Really good! Too bad there wasn’t more of the
beef. Another notable side dish was the grilled fish, which I thought to be
fresh and flaky. Eating all these with the belacan kangkung was an appetizing
combination indeed. The squid and prawns were just nothing too stellar. The
satay lilit, which was minced meat wrapped around a lemongrass, was
delightfully infused with the essence of lemongrass.
Nasi Ayam Bertutu, which came with a half
chicken! It was also served with some belacan kangkung, as with
typical Balinese restaurants in Bali itself. The chicken was tender and very
well marinated with hints of turmeric, garlic, onion and chillies, and then
roasted to perfection. It was really flavourful and went very well with the
nasi kuning (yellow rice) served along the dish. If you could ask for another
portion of rice, I’m sure this serving of chicken would be enough to feed 2
persons.
The meal certainly cleared our doubts on whether the hype on Bumbu Bali was really justifiable. We definitely had a great dinner there and
would return again during some special event for a revisit! I love this place!
